Christmas 2020: Is it really the most wonderful time of the year?
‘It’s The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year’ – the title of the favourite 1963 Christmas hit, by Andy Williams. But is Christmas 2020 really going to be that wonderful?
2020 tested us beyond measure. It brought to the world a global pandemic, an overactive hurricane season, nationwide protests over racial injustice, a contentious presidential election and much more – in other words, what has been declared by TIME Magazine as the WORST YEAR EVER!
What is worse, is that we know that this nightmare isn’t quite over yet, as it’s looking like yet again, we will be experiencing a slightly different Christmas – the LOCKDOWN version of Christmas. There will be fewer people gathering in our homes and definitely smaller turkeys on our dinner tables. Our work Christmas parties will happen through Zoom (or not at all), everyone will be Christmas shopping online and New Year’s Eve will be in pyjamas and in front of the TV.
However, let us not forget that Christmas is about giving time to our loved ones and showing them we care about them and appreciate them. This year has taught us that our health is in no way guaranteed (no matter how much money you have) and that patience and persistence can truly get you through hard times. During 2020 all of us have felt down, confused, anxious, shocked and frustrated at some point, so we all undoubtedly deserve a prize for surviving this strange year.
MARY-ANN&CO would like to wish everyone HAPPY HOLIDAYS. We truly hope that the festivities give you the time to rest, eat good food, enjoy time with your family and appreciate what truly matters. We hope that if you get the time to reflect on the past months, you realise that life is short, fragile and does not wait for anyone. Remember that no matter how hard the past is, you can always begin again.
