HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Last year, before the arrival of 2018 I wrote a (very long) blog about how to change your game in 2018. 2017 was a tough but highly productive year for me. It was the ‘Year of Change’ as I moved from England to Cyprus, I worked three jobs simultaneously, I lost friends, I made new friends and gained important and valuable experiences in both my personal and professional life.

2018 was a little different. During this year I was trying to find myself and figure out where I stand in different areas of my life. The focus wasn’t so much on making changes, but more about accepting and getting used to the changes that had already taken place in the year before. In other words, I was looking for ways to create healthy and practical routines and I was trying to find the perfect balance between my professional, personal and social life. I called it the ‘Year of Progress’.

When trying to create a new lifestyle and form new habits, you need to be disciplined, committed, determined, persistent and most importantly consistent! It definitely wasn’t easy and I can’t say that I am there yet, but I have definitely managed to gain a little more stability and have learned that sometimes the solutions are right in front of you. All you need to do is search a little deeper within you.

This approach has led me to my 2019 New Year’s Resolution. I feel like in order to be able to understand what I am feeling, to recognise when a good opportunity is right in front of me and to learn to trust my gut feeling, I need to familiarise myself with how the human mind scientifically works and how it could be affecting my psychological state. I feel like a lot of could be found in books, so… I have decided to read more books in 2019!

I know… this is probably one of the most boring and mainstream resolutions anyone could think of. However, for me, it is an unexpected resolution as I DON’T READ BOOKS!

Therefore, my new year’s resolution is to read books and to be more precise, Self-Help books. I plan to read 1 book every 2 months, which means that by the end of 2019, I will have read 6 new books. I know that this doesn’t seem like a lot, but trust me this is a huge challenge for me.

I am hoping that by the end of this reading journey: I will be able to interpret myself and the world more positively, I will be inspired to make better choices and take positive actions more often, I will expand my ways of thinking and smash through my limitations. Most importantly, whilst reading, I will be able to work on my personal projects and come up with a hands-on plan on how I will be rocketing the growth of MARY-ANN&CO.

The books I have chosen, are classic Self-Help books that I have been sitting on my bookshelf for the longest time.

The Life-Changing Magic of Not Giving a F**k – by Sarah Knight

Feel The Fear And Do It Anyway – by Susan Jeffers

Women Who Love Too Much – by Robin Norwood

How to stop worrying and start living – by Dale Carnegie

Act Like a Success, Think Like a Success – by Steve Harvey

Think Like An Entrepreneur, Act Like A CEO –  by Beverly Jones

Katrina Mayer (a person definitely worth looking up) has said that ‘A book is a magical thing that lets you travel to far-away places without ever leaving your chair’. So, in 2019 I am going on a ‘reading’ journey. A journey that I have never been on before. A journey that may be one of the most exciting journeys that I have ever signed up for. Wish me luck!

‘Books give a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything’.
